Welcome to Tea Time Tuesday, my Fellow Book Dragons! This evening’s Gem is very beautiful. It is an opaque white jade cat, beautifully carved with bright, aquamarine eyes. Hold it in your claws and you can almost feel it purring it. This cat is no ordinary cat. This cat brings wisdom, luck and a bit of romance. This cat’s name is Marshmallow and this Gem is called “Mimi Lee Gets a Clue” by Gem Maker Jennifer J. Chow.
I loved this book. It is perfect for Tea Time. Chow has created a lovely character and her world to entertain and yet allows One to relax while solving a mystery, eating delightful food and drinking tea and falling for a romantic, fallible young man. This is the perfect evening read when conditions are right for staying inside.
Her heroine, Mimi Lee, runs a pet grooming shop named Hollywoof and on her opening day, her little sister brings her a beautiful stray from a rescue. He is pure white with ocean eyes. He is extremely talented. He can talk, at least he can talk to Mimi and he is a bit on the Sherlock Holmes side, which is wonderful because Mimi is about to be up to her blow dryer in a murder investigation.
Chow uses her side characters craftily. There is Mimi’s Malaysian Mother, who speaks British Colonial English and Malaysian. This gets Mimi in trouble more often than not. Mimi’s family is a great support to her, especially her baby sister, Alice, a school teacher. Chow knows how to draw her readers in with charm, humor and warmth. Her story line builds quickly though. This is not a slow read.
If you are looking for a pick me up, pick this up! You will be very happy with yourself for doing so! Until tomorrow, I remain, your humble Book Dragon,
